Bike Chain Lubrication process

Most of today's bike for daily commuting will have an open chain. An open chain means the chain will not have any chain guard. Due to open chain system dust, dirt and mud easily gets into the chain making it less lubricant and rough. Below are steps how you should clean your chain.

  • Make the bike stand in a center stand. If the bike don't have a center stand you can use alternative bike stand support rods.
  • Put the bike in first gear and make the rear will spin
  • Get a dry cloth and hold the moving chain tightly.
  • Make sure the chain is fully clean and dirt/dust free.
  • Use kerosene oil to lubricant the chain and wait for 10-15 minutes.
  • After the kerosene oil gets dry, clean the chain with dry cloth again and repeat the same unless the chain is completely shinning and dirt free.
  • Use a good lubricant and spray till the chain is full lubricant.
  • wait for 3-4 hours to get the lubricant completely dry out.

Note:
  1. Chain lubrication should be done in every 800-1000 kms
  2. Motul have some best chain lubricant
  3. Chain lubrication must be done only when the chain is warm
  4. Don't use soap or water for cleaning
  5. Do clean your bike on the day time and leave it for the whole night for drying
  6. Chain sprocket must be examined, checked and replaced as per service station recommendation
